Michael: Congratulations, Amazon. You've just invented the equivalent of the iPhone for e-books.
mr. Craig: Amazon has a fantastic job this time around with this device. What i liked in Kindle 2 comparing to first Kindle: 1. The screen is a bit better, higher contrast. Not a lot. Its not night & day but it is better. 2. Photos display 10 times better (more levels of grey.) Book covers are gorgeous. 3. You can now download archives books directly on the Kindle - books you bought from Amazon but have deleted off your Kindle. This is cool. 4. You use the same cable for charging & connecting via USB. Very convenient. 5. Page turning is much faster, more responsive. The OS overall is much more responsive. 6. The "text to speech" is surprisingly decent. Its still pretty mechanical but listening to a book in the car this morning was fine. 7. The built in speakers are crazy loud. I did not have to use earphones listening in the car today. Its that loud. 8. Form factor - Its much thinner and compact and easier to hold. Again, this will not change my reading really. It sleek & well designed. 9. 5 way toggle. It takes some getting used to but its pretty handy. I suspect it will grow on me and I will come to use it quickly.
Judy Czarnecki: Can anyone tell me if you can buy an e-book from Barnes & Noble (they sell the Nook) and read it on a Kindle, or buy an e-book from Amazon (seller of Kindle) and read it on a Nook or a Sony Reader?
Barry Hauge: I am not so pleased with my Kindle 2. I have a choice of one site I can buy ebooks from. If Amazon has what I want... fine. If not... I am out of luck! I do not like being held hostage by a megacompany like Amazon. IF they raise the prices later... I have nowhere else I can go. Whispernet (wireless) is a drawback and not a blessing. It works well enough... but also allows Amazon to remove ebooks off my device and to know what I have on it. Whtaever happened to privacy? Some other eBook Readers have up to 20 formats on the device. I have one on my Kindle. It does not have an SD card slot so I cannot swap music with my friends and I cannot enlrage the memory. I cannot personalize my Kindle... it comes in one color only! IF the rechargeable battery goes bad I have to send the unit back to Amazon. For $100 plus freight they will gleefully pop in a new battery I could buy online for $10 and I am without the device for 4-6 weeks. Nope, I would not buy again! I am already looking for a device with more formats that has a user-replaceable rechargeable battery!
Bob Cohen: Addictive, it reads to me on the way to work, no more time for XM radio!
Mr. B: Wonderful! The best way to have volumes of reading material available anywhere, any time, in an efficient thin paperback book sized device. Ability to clip sections, annotate, search, bookmark, change font size, be read to, look up a web reference ... all while on the go. The Kindle store (always accessible through the wireless connection) is convenient, quick to respond and send books or magazines at a moments notice as well as providing a 'Daily Post' and New & Noteworthy Books updates. The display could be brighter, a less than bright room is aided by using the supplement of a small attachable reading lamp. With the addition of a leather case, it's an elegant, useful, enjoyable way to build and have available a decent library.
